Crestview Hills celebrates 50 years as community

By Cindy Schroeder
The Cincinnati Enquirer

CRESTVIEW HILLS — When this Kenton County city was incorporated in 1951, it was so small that it operated on a $1,000 budget, its council met in rented space and it shared a single police officer with neighboring Lakeside Park.

Today, Crestview Hills has a $1.6 million budget and a council that meets monthly in its own city building, and is part of the Lakeside Park/Crestview Hills Police Authority with 10 employees.

The city that boasts one of the lowest property tax rates in Kenton County also offers full fire and EMS services, advanced life support service, a modest recreation program, and twice-a-week garbage pickup and weekly curbside recycling at no extra fee, said Crestview Hills Administrator Kevin Celarek.

To mark its 50th anniversary, Crestview Hills is planning a year's worth of events, including:

        • A citywide picnic on the grounds of Thomas More College July 28. The picnic will feature activities including bingo, face painting, balloon sculpting, palm reading, and a DJ spinning big band, jazz and '50s through '70s music. Residents who create pottery, ceramics, painting or woodworking are asked to call City Clerk/Treasurer C.R. Wirthlin at the city building to display their work.

        • Creation of a 50th anniversary float to represent Crestview Hills in Fourth of July parades in Edgewood and Fort Mitchell. Anyone interested in helping build the float, or who has a flatbed is asked to contact Mr. Celarek at the city building.

        • An anniversary dinner and dance Nov. 10 at the Summit Hills Country Club in Crestview Hills. As part of the evening, awards would be offered for everything from the oldest resident to volunteers involved in community beautification.
