Busy week in high school sports


More baseball sectional action on tap today

        Baseball, softball, track and boys tennis share the limelight this week as the 2001 spring high school season enters the final three weeks.

        Due to Friday's rain, four baseball games will be completed today at Roselawn Field (Division II) and Tealtown (Division III) with the four winners advancing to the District Tournament.

        Overall, there will be 13 Cincinnati-area teams alive in baseball after today's games.

        Midland Field will host the four Division I games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Division II games are at the University of Dayton on Friday and Saturday.

        Cincinnati Country Day is the first local team in action. The Indians meet Tipp City Bethel in a 5:30 p.m. Wednesday game in Covington, Ohio. Summit Country Day plays Fort Loramie Thursday at Covington.

        Wright State University will play host to the Division III district championship games Friday and Saturday.

Softball
        Once-beaten Fairfield heads a strong contingent of 14 Cincinnati teams in the softball tournament that has reached the district level.

        The Division I district will be played at Miami University in Oxford Friday and Saturday. Lakota West, Ursuline, Fairfield, McAuley and Hamilton are alive.

        The University of Dayton will host the Division II district with once-beaten Ross, Kings and Norwood in action. Division III will be played at Kennedy Park in Dayton and Division IV at Wayne High School.

Track
        Anderson and Fairfield will play host to the Division I district track meets with the field events today (4 p.m.) and the running preliminaries Wednesday (4 p.m.) and running finals Friday (6 p.m.).

        The Division II and III district meets will be at Amelia Stadium Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

        Field events for girls in both Division II and III are scheduled for Tuesday with the boys running preliminaries the same day.

        Thursday, the boys field events in Division II and III will be contested along with the girls running preliminaries in both divisions.

Boys tennis
        Thomas Cloud Park in Dayton will host the Division I district tournament at 9 a.m. Thursday. The Division II tournament is at Princeton High School.

        The championship and third-place matches will be 9 a.m. Saturday at the same sites with the top four finishers advancing to the Division I state tournament and the top five in Division II.
