Cincinnati high school highlights

Taylor, Ross, Batavia, Mariemont win baseball scetionals

The last time Taylor won a sectional baseball championship, coach Chris Hannum was a freshman on the varsity squad. The Yellowjackets delivered a second championship to Hannum 14 years later with a 4-3 victory over Roger Bacon in Division II at Roselawn Park on Monday.

Taylor advances to the district championship against Badin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the University of Dayton.

Monday's game was the continuation of Friday's suspended game with Taylor batting in the bottom of the seventh inning with Josh Baird on first and no outs. Baird advanced to second on a bunt. Following a strikeout, Ryan Richmond lined a 1-2 pitch to left field to drive in Baird.

“Ryan has only struck out four times in 90 at-bats so we knew he would put the ball in play,” Hannum said. “He got a fastball away, which is the pitch he likes.”

Ross 9, McNicholas 3, Division II sectional championship at Roselawn — Warren Sizemore pitched five innings of one-hit relief. Sizemore also had a two-run triple in the third inning to give the Rams the lead for good.

Batavia 8, Madeira 5, Division III sectional championship at Tealtown — Kyle Mullen hit a two-out homer in the second inning to give Batavia a 6-2 lead. Seth Ellis pitched six innings to pick up the win, and Mullen earned the save.

Batavia will face Versailles in the district championship game at 4p.m. Saturday at Wright State.

Mariemont 10, Deer Park 4, Division III sectional championship at Tealtown — Brandon Fisher drove in five runs to pace Mariemont, which plays play Oakwood at 5:30p.m. Friday at Wright State.

Fast-pitch softball

Wyoming 8, Bethel-Tate 2, Division III sectional championship at Riverstar — Katie Schaeffer scattered four hits to improve to 7-3.

Wyoming advances to the district championship at 4 p.m. Thursday at Kennedy Park in Dayton.
