The Collected Works of William Howard Taft: Volume I, edited by David H. Burton and A.E. Campbell (Ohio University Press; $49.95). Hot off the press: the first of eight volumes containing the writings of the Cincinnati-born 27th president. It contains two of Mr. Taft's earlybooks: Four Aspects of Civic Duty (based on lectures he gave at Yale University when he was Secretary of War) and Present Day Problems (published the year he became president; also based on lectures). The foreword is by grandson Seth Chase Taft and there is an appreciation by great grandson and current Ohio governor, Bob Taft.
Going Off: A Guide for Black Women Who've Just About Had Enough by Faye Childs and Noreen Palmer (St. Martin's Press; $21.95). As the title and subtitle suggest, this is a book about anger and anger management. The authors discuss what triggers anger and styles of anger, as well as finding constructive ways to release anger. Signing: 7 p.m. Thursday, Joseph-Beth Booksellers, Edwards and Madison roads, Norwood, 396-8960.
Jim the Boy by Tony Earley (Back Bay/Little Brown; $12.95). This critically acclaimed debut novel was just released in paperback, so Mr. Earley is on tour again. It's the story of of boy turning 10 in Aliceville, N.C., during the Great Depression. He lives on a farm with his widowed mother and three uncles. Mr. Earley's graceful narrative is simple but not simplistic, sweet but not sentimental, said a review in the Orlando Sentinel. He remembers what it's like to be a kid and makes readers remember too. Signing: 7 p.m. Wednesday , Books & Co., 350 E. Stroop Road, Kettering (937) 298-6540.
