Despite battling laryngitis, veteran ABC commentator Paul Harvey will keep his commitment to attend the Salvation Army's 45th Annual Civic and Recognition Luncheon at noon today at the Hyatt Recency Hotel in downtown Cincinnati.

        “He has been sick for some time, but he promises that he'll be here,” Salvation Army spokesman Matt Pearce said.

The organization has a backup plan for the 1 p.m. keynote speech in case Mr. Harvey, 82, is not having a good day with his voice.

        Tickets ($75 per person) will be available at the Hyatt Regency ballroom starting at 10 a.m. today, Mr. Pearce said.

        More than 22 million people each week listen to his Paul Harvey News and Comment and The Rest of the Story programs. He made his radio debut 68 years ago, at age 14, in his hometown of Tulsa, Okla.
