Reading boys grab track lead
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Reading boys track coach Ronda Eisenhar, in an effort to score points at the Division III district meet, made a bold move Tuesday.
Rather than skip the pole vault, an event in which the team lacked performers all season, Eisenhar entered first-time vaulters Scott Lawson and Tim Coffey. They finished third and fourth, respectively.
The 3-4 finish earned Reading 10 points, and the Blue Devils' 3,200-meter relay team earned another 10 with a first-place finish. That enabled Reading to take a four-point lead over Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy entering Thursday's field events at Amelia.
In the Division II district girls meet, Indian Hill surged into the lead, with three-time state qualifier Jackie Copeland winning the long jump and Layci Collaway taking the high jump.
We're the defending district champs, but it's hard to say we'll win, because Reading beat us by four points in the (Cincinnati Hills League) meet last week, Indian Hill coach Susan Savage said.
Also scoring for Indian Hill in the field events were Ali White, fourth in high jump, and Dana Forbes, second in the discus.
We're definitely coming out of the field events in better shape than Reading, Savage said.
Cincinnati Country Day leads the Division III girls district meet after the first day, with Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy close behind.
The Division I running preliminaries will be today at Anderson and Fairfield, with the Divisions II and III girls running preliminaries Thursday at Amelia beginning at 4p.m.
