First, flood watch; then it rained

For the Tristate and much of Ohio, the day started with a flash-flood watch — and then the rains came.

Cincinnati, Maysville and Portsmouth remained under a National Weather Service flood watch until 11 p.m. Friday after more storms swept through an already soggy region.

Many locations in Ross, Pike and Scioto counties in southeast Ohio had already received more than 5 inches of rain since Monday.

All of south-central Ohio got at least 2 inches of rain Thursday and Friday. Scioto County has been hit hardest, with some areas getting 6 to 7 inches of rain, said Greg Tipton, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Closer to home, things were less severe, though a wave of strong storms hit Greater Cincinnati about 3 p.m. The 24-hour accumulation for the Cincinnati area from 8 p.m. Thursday to 8 p.m. Friday was 1.03 inches, with .6 inches being recorded in that period at Lunken Airport.
