District tennis championships
Princeton's Teufel hands Elder's Altenau first loss
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Princeton's Kevin Teufel beat Elder's Rob Altenau 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 Saturday in the championship match of the Division I Southwest District Tournament at Dayton's Thomas Cloud Park.
Teufel (17-1) handed Altenau (30-1) his first defeat this season. Princeton head coach Bob Caress said he wasn't surprised by the outcome.
Kevin is very tough mentally, he said. He was down four games to one in the first set and he was looking pretty bad. But he battled back. He's been in that situation many times before where he's been down and had to battle back.
Rob was outslugging Kevin. We advised Kevin to take pace off the ball. That seemed to bother Rob a bit, and Kevin was able to get back in the match.
Both players advance to state. Teufel will be the No.1 seed in the Southwest district, Altenau No.2.
