Regional track highlights
St. X state-champion relay team disqualified

When the red flag went up during the Division I regional meet's boys 3,200-meter relay Thursday at Welcome Stadium in Dayton, the crowd fell silent.
After the final runner for St.Xavier crossed the finish line in first place, officials told coach Mike Dehring the Bombers were disqualified because a runner stepped off the track. St.Xavier won the state title in that event last year, and this year's relay included two runners from that team.
The 3,200 title instead was awarded to Kings' team of Tyler Garvin, Jesse Contarzaro, John Velez and Matt Bagley, which finished in 7:58.94. Cincinnati-area athletes also won titles in five other events.
The pole vault was won by Moeller junior Brent Walter with a vault of 15 feet. Kevin Furlow of Western Hills claimed the long jump title with a leap of 22-6.
In the girls' meet, a toss of 42 feet earned the shot put championship for Mercy's Jenni Leesman and Wilmington's Desiree Jones won the high jump with a leap of 5-4.
Lakota East's 3,200 relay team of Corrie Whisner, Jaime Wyckoff, Katie Hickey and Lindsay Zinn (9:25.42) edged Turpin (9:26.49) for the championship. Colerain (9:28.81) was third.
