N.Ky. baseball highlights


St. Henry, Highlands district champs

        John Siemer had a two-run triple in the second inning and St. Henry beat Ryle 5-1 in the 33rd District final at Conner. It was St. Henry's second straight district title.

        Mark Kolkmeier pitched a complete game for the victory, striking out nine.

        • Highlands 4, Bellevue 1, 36th District final at Highland Park — Derrick Moeves hit a two-run single in the first inning lead the Bluebirds, who last won the district in 1999.

        Jason Pompilio pitched four shutout innings before yielding to Matt Fath. Moeves pitched the last two innings for his fifth save of the season.

        • Dixie Heights 6, Scott 1, 34th District semifinal at Covington Catholic — Jay Johnson struck out 12 and held Scott to just one run. He also went 3-for-4.

        Troy Kenning led off the third inning with a solo home run. Jeff Stallkamp later hit a two-run single.

        Dixie Heights will play Beechwood in the final at 1 p.m. today at Scott High School.

        • Beechwood 5, Lloyd 4, 34th district semifinal at Scott — Mike Nie drove in Josh Morris for the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

        The Tigers trailed 4-2 going into the sixth when Nie scored on a single by David Potter, who eventually scored on a single by Andrew Smith.

        Nie pitched a complete game, striking out 12.

        The game was J.T. Mulligan's last game as Lloyd's coach.
