Southern Ohio Junior PGA event June 29 at Fairfield

The Southern Ohio Junior PGA Championship is June 29 at Fairfield Golf Club. The annual event, which is open to all boy and girl state residents age 17 and under, is a qualifier for the national championship the Junior PGA Championship July 18-21 at Westfield Group Country Club in Westfield Center, Ohio.
Westfield Group is a new title sponsor of the event and will host it through 2005. Registration deadline is June 8. Contact Fairfield pro Jim Slominski.
The Westfield Junior PGA Championship features boys and girls champions from each of the PGA of America's 41 sections, winners from selected national junior tournaments conducted throughout the year, point leaders from the 2001 PGA Junior Series and members of the 2000 American Junior Golf Association All-America first team. Past competitors include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Justin Leonard, Dottie Pepper and Michelle McGann.

Mickelson, the No.2-ranked player in the world, will skip this week's Memorial in Dublin, Ohio, for the second straight year. No.1-ranked Tiger Woods, two-time defending champion, will be there to defend.
