Preps Week Ahead
High hopes, heavy hearts for Hamilton
By Dave Schutte
The Cincinnati Enquirer
If playing in a state baseball championship game isn't enough motivation for Hamilton, coach Dan Bowling and his players have an added incentive: Bowling said his seriously ill father, Walter, is pulling for the team to bring the title home.
He told me he plans to hang on until we win the state championship, Dan Bowling said. He insisted that I attend the regional games this weekend.
Bowling's Big Blue team defeated Elder 2-1 in Friday's semifinals and Lakota West 10-4 Saturday for the regional championship.
The Big Blue (25-7) play Dublin Coffman (24-7) Thursday at 10 a.m in the Division I state semifinals at Cooper Stadium in Columbus with the winner playing for the state championship Saturday.
Hamilton's softball team also qualified for the Division I state semifinals, also Thursday at 10 a.m. in Ashland against the Amherst regional champion that will be crowned today
Cincinnati Country Day's baseball team is one victory from joining Hamilton in Columbus. Coach Tim Dunn's Indians (27-3) play Fort Loramie (27-2) today at 2 p.m. at Huber Heights Wayne.
The winner advances to Friday's state semifinals against Windham (16-6) at Columbus' Cooper Stadium beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Ross also is one victory from reaching the Division II state softball semifinals.
The Rams (27-4) play Benjamin Logan (23-5) today at 1 p.m. at Clayton Northmont for the regional championship.
The Ross/Benjamin Logan winner plays the winner of today's game at Bucyrus High School between Lima Bath (23-3) and Maumee (11-12).
