Cincinnati Machine, the Oakley unit of Unova Co., has won a $4 million order for nine of its horizontal machining centers from an Indiana manufacturer.
Fairfield Manufacturing Co. of Lafayette is acquiring the HPC-500 horizontal machining centers to fulfill a multiyear contract to produce differential cases and housings. The machines will be installed in Fairfield's 600,000-square- foot plant in a high-volume cell setup to allow round-the- clock machining operations.
AK Steel receives safety award again
AK Steel's Middletown coke plant has again won the Max Eward Safety Award from the American Coke and Coal Chemicals Institute. It's the third time in four years the Middletown facility has won the award for the industry's best safety record.
The Middletown coke plant didn't have an OSHA-recordable injury in 2000, believed be a first among institute members. AK's Ashland, Ky., coke plant had just one recordable injury in 2000. The OSHA-recordable injury rate is the number of medical treatment, lost time and restricted-work injuries per 200,000 employee-hours in a year.

The unidentified customer will use the Tracker T1600 dual-clamp system to produce modular, snap-together plastic storage sheds, popular in the United States.
Milacron said the dual clamp system can produce the roof and walls for one shed simultaneously, saving time and money.
