Pilots stand by Comair brethren
The chairman of the pilots union at Atlantic Coast Airlines on rsday affirmed that his branch of the Air Line Pilots Association was honoring the striking Comair pilots' request not to fly the routes idled by the job action.
We have discussed this at great length and in great detail with the Comair pilots, and we've adhered to it all along, said John Swigart, a regional jet captain for the Virginia-based airline that operates Delta Connection carrier AC Jet.
Mr. Swigart represents about 1,300 pilots, some of whom fly for the branch of ACA that operates under the United Express name, with the rest flying for AC Jet, a fellow member of the Delta Connection feeder network.
Comair's pilots have asked all fellow Air Line Pilots Association members not to fly the routes idled by the 68-day strike if they work for parent company Delta Air Lines or any of its subsidiaries or affiliates.
Mr. Swigart said his pilots had not been asked to cross the Comair picket line, and Atlantic Coast officials declined to comment, referring questions on future routes to Delta Connection officials.
