Page needs more surgery
Enquirer staff, wires
LOUISVILLE Former heavyweight champion Greg Page returned to the University of Cincinnati Hospital on Thursday to undergo additional surgery for injuries he received during a fight two months ago, hospital officials said.
The 42-year-old boxer left Frazier Rehab Institute on Thursday and is expected to remain in Cincinnati for up to four days, said a statement from Frazier. He is scheduled to undergo bone flap replacement surgery at 7:30 a.m. today in an effort to relieve the swelling in his brain.
Page had part of his skull taken out and was paralyzed on the left side from a stroke, his fiancee, Patricia Love, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal recently. He is working through the pain and the roller-coaster ride associated with brain surgery, Dr. Karen Bloom said through a statement.
Love said doctors at the Cincinnati hospital told her Page was dead on the operating table after his March 9 fight in Erlanger against 24-year-old Dale Crowe.
