Girls released in poisoning case
A Hamilton County Juvenile Court magistrate on Monday ordered four girls accused of trying to poison their teacher released from detention and placed on electronic monitoring until their next court appearances.
The girls, ages 11, 12, 12 and 13, return to court Aug. 6 for hearings on motions to suppress evidence in their cases.
Magistrate Allen Miller's decision was met with tears and sighs of relief from the girls and their families.
The prosecution had requested that they continue to be confined, saying Oyler Elementary School teacher Nancy Wynette fears retaliation.
The girls are accused of pouring liquid drain cleaner into Ms. Wynette's water bottle May 10. Authorities say the girls were retaliating because the teacher had disciplined one of them.
Donald Bearghman, principal of the school in Lower Price Hill, said in court Monday that his office had no problem with any of the girls before the incident. The four have been confined since their arrests May 17.
