One of six finalists will be named La Rosa's High School Female Athlete of the Year June 23.
This year's nominees include athletes from tennis, cross country, track, basketball and swimming, and include one nominee from Kentucky. All are seniors. The athletes were nominated by area high school fans and coaches.
Audra Falk, Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy: Falk won her third consecutive Division II Ohio state tennis championship this year, and is ranked 14th in the nation among 18-and-younger players. She won her last 80 high school matches.
Falk was Cincinnati Division II player-of-the-year every year in high school and three times was named first team all-state. She also ran track and holds the school record in the 400-meter run. Falk will attend Vanderbilt next year.
Chelsea Homan, Anderson High School: Homan has earned 12 varsity letters in track, cross country and swimming and she carries a 4.0 grade point average.
Homan was named first team all-state and first team all-city four times each and was Cincinnati cross country runner of the year as a junior, when she won the Division I state title in 17 minutes, 53.8 seconds, a personal best. Homan will swim for Michigan next year.
Michelle Munoz, Mason High School: Last year's winner, Munoz averaged 24 points and 11 rebounds per game as a senior three points and rebounds more than last year.
The two-time Ohio Ms. Basketball led Mason to a 94-8 record during her career. Munoz is the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,840 points. She will attend the University of Tennessee next year.
Tami Ransom, Ursuline Academy: Ransom led her team to three Ohio state swimming championships, and one state runner-up finish. She has won six gold medals in individual events and five in relays in state meets. She owns the national high school record in the 200 individual medley, with a time of 1:58.76.
Ransom qualified for the 2000 Olympic trials and competed in the world championships and U.S. National Championships. She holds seven school records and is the U.S. Junior Nationals record-holder in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:04.82. Ransom will attend Stanford next year.
Katie Schwegmann, Bishop Brossart: Schwegmann is the only Kentucky nominee and is the state's reigning Ms. Basketball. She holds school records for points in a game (42), season (880) and career (2917).
Schwegmann returned from knee surgery to lead the state in scoring with 27.3 ppg, was named Gatorade Kentucky Player of the Year and for the third time was named first team all-state. Schwegmann has also won the state championship in the 800 and made it to the state finals with the 3200 relay team. Schwegmann will attend Miami University next year.
Lindsay Zinn, Lakota East: Zinn, a member of the National Honor Society and eight-time academic all-state performer, was named first team All-Ohio for the fourth time after winning the state cross country championship in 17:24. She also holds school records in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200.
