Council backs city's bid again as Olympics site
The Cincinnati Enquirer
City Council has once again given its support but no money to bringing the 2012 Olympic Games to the region.
For the third time in four years, council adopted a resolution on Wednesday reaffirming the city's support for the effort to attract the games.
The U.S. Olympic Committee Site Evaluation Task Force is scheduled to visit Cincinnati for three days beginning July 23.
It is important to the USOC to see the support of local government, said Nick Vehr, president of Cincinnati 2012, the group pursuing the Olympics.
City Council's affirmation of their support sends the message that Cincinnati is eager to host the Olympic Games and determined to do everything possible to achieve that goal.
Mr. Vehr pointed out the committee did not ask for money during Wednesday's council meeting.
The committee has previously sought $250,000. This month, City Manager John Shirey told council members the city could be facing a budget shortfall of up to $25 million.
