Gas prices in region fall to lowest in months
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Gasoline prices keep falling quickly in the region, with the average in Ohio on Thursday hitting a three-month low.
The average price for a gallon of regular was $1.41 Thursday, according to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report. That's 13 cents less than last week.
Prices in some areas have fallen below $1.30 a gallon hitting levels among the lowest recorded this year.
Prices also have fallen sharply in the Kentucky portion of Greater Cincinnati during the past week, with the average regular costing $1.55 a gallon Thursday.
Stations in Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties sell reformulated gas in the summer months. The gas produces fewer smog-causing pollutants but costs more to produce.
After a shaky late winter and spring, refiners have been producing more and more gasoline. The result has been falling prices here and across the nation.
Gasoline futures at the New York Mercantile Exchange ended at their lowest level for the year Thursday.
July gasoline futures fell 6.34 cents Wednesday and an additional 1.94 cents to 77.09 cents a gallon, the lowest level for a front-month gasoline contract since late December. Futures prices do not include federal or state taxes.
