Tristate Summary

Sysborne steps in, buys InfiNet

Sysborne LLC has reached a deal to buy the assets of InfiNet Communications Inc. from its bankrupt owner, Teligent Inc.

InfiNet, a telephone systems provider formerly called Phoneland, went out of business May 18. Sysborne, based in Sharonville, hired more than 14 InfiNet employees “and moved quickly to dispatch technicians to the InfiNet customer base that was stranded due to the office closing,” the company said Friday in a prepared statement.

Casinos see decreasing profits

The three floating casinos in southeastern Indiana hosted nearly 1 million visits in May, but earned significantly fewer dollars from those visits than last year, state officials said.

Argosy Casino in Lawrenceburg “won” $27.7 million from gamblers, compared to gross gaming revenue of $29.1 million in May 2000.

Grand Victoria Casino in Rising Sun posted similar results, with gross gaming revenue dropping more than $2 million to $10.4 million.

Gross gaming revenue is the casino's winnings before it pays salaries, taxes and other expenses.

Belterra Casino in Switzerland County, which opened in October 2000, posted a “win” of $7.5 million.

Argosy attracted 600,701 visits, Grand Victoria 209,945 and Belterra 187,869.

2 local companies make "best' list

Cincinnati's Broadwing Inc. and Convergys Corp. were named to Business Week's Info Tech 100, the magazine's annual list of the best technology companies in the United States.

Convergys, the Cincinnati supplier of billing and customer management services, was ranked 71 and Broadwing, builder of the nation's first all-optical fiber optic network and parent of Cincinnati Bell, came in at 81.
