Congrats


Professor named to EPA board

        Daniel Acosta Jr., professor and dean of the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy, accepted an appointment to serve on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Board of Scientific Counselors.

        During his two-year term, he will consult for the Office of Research and Development, a division of the EPA.

Contest winners

               Thirteen students were winners of the Regional Ozone Coalition's first “Do Your Share for Cleaner Air” calendar contest. The winning entries will be featured in a calendar that will be distributed to schools, businesses and communities throughout Greater Cincinnati.

        The winners were:

        Kindergarten — Jorel Balabala, Our Lady of the Rosary

        first grade — Ashley Renner, Lockland Elementary

        second grade — Alicia Perry, Sayler Park

        second grade — Brandon Wilson, Lockland Elementary

        third grade — Jessica McLemore, Lockland Elementary

        fourth grade — Brandi Adams, Holy Family

        fourth grade — Micah Cohen, Maddux Elementary

        fifth grade — Katrina Battermann, Sellman School

        sixth grade — Lyndsay Montair, St. Gabriel Consolidated

        sixth grade — Allison Ng, Rapid Run Middle;

        seventh grade — Brooke Solomon, Campbell County Middle

        eighth grade — Calla Rose, Rapid Run Middle

        10th grade — Josh Bayer, La Salle High School.

1st-place winner

               Emily Nurre, a sophomore at Oak Hills High School, won first place in the PTA's 2001 Reflections program at the state level. Her work advanced to national competition.

        She is the daughter of Dr. Teresa Aurand and Dr. John Nurre II of Bridgetown.

Program complete

               Kim Cassidy, of Middletown, and Rhonda Mitchell Jones, of Waynesville, have completed the Sinclair Community College Family Advocate Certificate Program.

        The program was developed to aid family advocates whose job is to provide the support servicesneeded by families enrolled in the Head Start program.

Member elected

               Jesse Matthews, a graduating senior at the University of Cincinnati, was elected a member of Psi Chi, the collegiate national honor society for psychology majors. He is the son of Teri and Doug Matthews of Springfield Township.
