3 banks hit by 3 different robbers

By Sue Kiesewetter and David Eck
Enquirer Contributors

Robbers hit three Provident Banks across Greater Cincinnati Monday — one of them the same Colerain Township branch robbed Saturday.

Police believe the same man might have been involved in those two holdups.

Monday's heists bring the number of bank robberies in Hamilton County this year to 46, compared with 53 in all of 2000.

In addition to the Colerain Township branch, Provident Banks in Springfield Township and Camp Washington were robbed Monday. No injuries were reported in the three crimes.

        • Monday morning, a man entered the Springfield Township branch at 9301 Winton Road. He passed the teller a note demanding money and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

He did not show a gun, but indicated he had one, police said.

That robber fled south on Winton Road on foot. He was described as African-American, 25-30 years old, about 6 feet tall and weighing about 200 pounds. He was wearing a blue and white checkered shirt and a light colored fishing hat.

        • At 1:05 p.m., a white man wearing sunglasses, a gray shirt and jeans walked up to a teller at Provident's Groesbeck branch at 7044 Colerain Ave. and demanded money, Hamilton County sheriff's deputies said.

He escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash and drove east on Banning Road in a pale green Ford Focus. No gun was displayed.

This was the same branch robbed Saturday, likely by the same man, sheriff's deputies said. Both robbers were about 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighed about 150 pounds, had wavy blond hair and used the same techniques to demand money.

        • Meanwhile, the Camp Washington branch at 2927 Colerain Ave. was robbed about 4:10 p.m. Monday.

The robber entered the bank through a rear door, approached a teller, indicated he had a weapon and demanded money, police said. After receiving cash, the robber fled south on Jessamine Street.

The robber was described as black male, 35-40, about 6 feet 3 inches, 180 pounds, with short black hair, mustache, glasses and a thin build. He was wearing a white, long-sleeve shirt and blue jeans or dark pants.

Anyone with information about any of the heists is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 352-3040.
