Bonds Watch: 0 for 8 games

The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES — Jeff Shaw intentionally walked Barry Bonds to load the bases with two outs in the ninth inning Tuesday night, then retired Jeff Kent to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a 4-3 win over San Francisco and their eighth straight victory.

Bonds failed to hit a homer for the eighth straight game — his longest drought of the season - but is still on a record pace with 39 home runs.

Bonds went hitless in three at-bats, leaving him 2-for-24 in those eight games. He hit his last homer June 23 in St. Louis.

Bonds, 4-for-42 with two homers and four RBIs against the Dodgers this season, walked in the first, grounded out in the second and fourth, and flied to deep left field in the seventh.

Bonds came to the plate in the ninth with runners on first and second. Dodgers manager Jim Tracy ordered an intentional walk and chose to pitch to Kent, one of the Giants' three All-Star starters.

Kent popped out on the first pitch to first baseman Eric Karros. Kent is 4-for-22 lifetime against Shaw, who earned his 23rd save in 26 chances.
