Strawberry fruit dip adds cool flavors

By Marilyn Harris

We received a lot of recipe requests this week. By the way, if it's easier, simply put your recipes or requests (with your name, neighborhood and phone number) at 55krc.com on the “Cooking with Marilyn” page. We appreciate everyone who takes time to share recipes with fellow readers.

        • Berry dunk: In answer to the request from Serena Bridges of Anderson for recipes for summer desserts using strawberries, Jackie Weist, also from Anderson Township, suggests the following.

Fruit Dip

        8 ounces cream cheese, softened

        1/4 cup sugar

        1/3 cup sour cream

Blend ingredients, chill and use as a dip with strawberries. Makes about 1 1/4 cups.

        • Better burgers: Roger Hammond of Liberty Township asked for good flavor ideas for summer burgers. This recipe was described by Julie Williams of Mount Washington as "an old family recipe on my husband's side.”

Beer Burgers

        1/2 cup molasses

        1/2 cup beer

        1/2 cup chili sauce

        1/2 cup chopped onion

        1/4 cup yellow mustard

        1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan and simmer five minutes. Brush on burgers while grilling. Makes enough to baste 10 to 12 burgers.

Recipe Requests

        • Pie remembered: Vicki Richter of Anderson Township has fond memories of the chicken pot pie served at the Tea Room at the old Shillito's department store, downtown. She hopes someone has the recipe.

        • Gravy Cake: Her grandmother made a plain cake, cut it into squares, put it on a plate and then poured a delicious, sort of lemony, sauce over it.

        • Seleste Stephens of East Walnut Hills would love to have a recipe for that sauce, which she remembers was easy to make.

        • Perkins Perks: Steve Brooks likes the sugar cookies and the chocolate chip cookies served at Perkins. He'd like a recipe for something similar.

        • High Thyme: From Miamisburg, Judie Peterson writes in search of an easy way to duplicate Dean & Deluca's thyme-roasted chicken. Does someone have the secret?
