Judge orders woman to change attire before sentencing
The Associated Press
A Hamilton County judge refused to sentence a woman who appeared in court wearing hot peach shorts and a T-shirt.
Victoria Gibson, 24, was to be sentenced Tuesday in the bathtub drowning of her 7-month-old daughter.
But Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Fred Cartolano ordered her to return today and to dress more appropriately, as if you are going to church, not Coney Island.
Ms. Gibson, of Cincinnati, pleaded guilty in June to involuntary manslaughter and child endangering and faces up to six years in prison.
The infant drowned March 2 as Gibson prepared to give the baby and another child a bath. The baby was in a child seat that was stuck to the tub with suction cups. The water was running, but the tub stopper was out so the water would drain.
Gibson walked away and was gone for up to 45 minutes. When she returned, her 6-year-old child was in bed, the stopper was in the tub, and the infant had drowned as the tub filled with water.
