Enquirer news services
LOUISVILLE Former heavyweight boxing champion Greg Page will be released from Frazier Rehab Institute today. Page has undergone treatment at Frazier for a brain injury suffered in a fight March 9 at Erlanger, Ky.
The 42-year-old Page was injured in a bout against 24-year-old Dale Crowe of Cincinnati. Page was attempting a comeback when he was knocked out in the fight at Peel's Palace.
Hospital officials said Page will continue to receive therapy five days a week at Frazier's Day Hospital transitional facility. Page is regaining his speech but is not expected to answer questions during a news conference today, hospital officials said.
Greg has made a remarkable recovery to date, said Dr. Karen Bloom, his physician.
Page won the WBA title Dec.1, 1984, beating Gerrie Coetzee in South Africa. He lost in the first defense of the title six months later.
