Cincinnati driver among 8 hurt in crash

The Associated Press and The Cincinnati Enquirer

OWENTON, Ky. — Eight people were injured when a car full of teen-agers crashed into an oncoming vehicle near Owenton on Ky. 330 Saturday afternoon.

The driver of one car, Gary Lee Roberts, 21, of Cincinnati, and one of his passengers, Stephanie Slubowski, 17, of Sparta, were airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center with serious injuries, state police said.

Both underwent surgery Saturday night, officials at the hospital said. Mr. Roberts was in good condition late Sunday and Ms. Slubowski was in fair condition. The rest involved in the crash were taken to Owen Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Roberts crossed the center line on Ky. 330 and struck a car driven by Todd A. Goodrich, state police said. The crash occurred at 12:40 p.m. about 12 miles east of Owenton.

Three of Mr. Roberts' passengers, Robert B. Walker, 19, and Curee Hill, 17, of Owenton and Ronald Howard, 16, were taken to Owen Memorial Hospital with injuries.

In the other car, Mr. Goodrich, 37, of Corinth was injured. His two sons, 3-year-old Cannon and 11-year-old John, suffered only minor injuries. All three were wearing seat belts, while no one in Mr. Roberts' vehicle was wearing a seat belt, state police said.

All patients treated at Owen Memorial Hospital had been treated and released late Sunday.
