Sysborne acquires bankrupt InfiNET
Buyer outbids rival at auction
By Mike Boyer
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Sharonville-based Sysborne LLC has prevailed in its battle with rival Cincinnati Voice & Data Communications to acquire the assets of InfiNET Communications, the Blue Ash telecommunications provider, in a bankruptcy-court supervised auction.
The purchase price for the assets including InfiNET's list of 6,000 customers wasn't disclosed, but it came after three rounds of bidding with Cincinnati Voice & Data in a New York City bankruptcy court Wednesday.
InfiNET, formerly known as Phoneland, was started in 1982 as a retail phone store. It was shut down in mid-May after its parent, once-flying Teligent Inc., sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy court protection. InfiNET, acquired last year by Teligent, employed 100 and had $15 million in revenues.
This is a huge boost for us, said Bill Carroll, who formed Sysborne last year. His company now employs 30 and expects to add 25 more employees before year-end as it re-establishes InfiNET's presence in Columbus, Lexington and Louisville. Sysborne acquired Mitel, NEC and Panasonic dealerships with the acquisition, which is to be completed Monday.
Jeff Black, president of Loveland-based Cincinnati Voice & Data, said it bowed out of the bidding because it became too pricey.
But the 9-year-old company, which also has offices in Dayton, Ohio, said it plans to pursue other acquisitions.
