Thief's day of wine and roasts
Delivery truck used in getaway
By Michael D. Clark
The Cincinnati Enquirer
A thirsty and hungry crook took care of those needs in a big way by first stealing a wine truck, then driving it to a grocery store to steal hundreds of dollars worth of meats.
Cincinnati Police said a man sped off with an unlocked Heidelberg Distribution Co. wine delivery truck idling at a Spring Grove Avenue gas station in Northside at 7:40 a.m. Thursday.
About 50 minutes later he parked the colorfully painted truck outside the Thriftway store at 1535 W. Galbraith Road in North College Hill. He strolled in and dashed out with $200 worth of meats.
A busy morning, huh? said Thriftway Assistant Manager Mike Tracy.
No one was hurt in either theft and Mr. Tracy couldn't suppress a chuckle when he tried to comprehend the thief's sizable appetites.
He must have got up in the morning and said to himself, "I got to steal a (wine) truck and then steal some meats,' Mr. Tracy said.
On Friday the truck was discovered parked on Frederick Road in Northside.
No arrest has been made and police are continuing their investigation.
