Free rules seminars for juniors

The United States Golf Association and the Southern Ohio PGA, in cooperation with the OHSAA, the Columbus District Golf Association, Greater Cincinnati Golf Association and the Miami Valley Golf Association will hold a series of free Rules of Golf seminars for players, coaches and interested junior golfers.
These seminars will be geared toward educating the players regarding integrity, etiquette and the most common rules of situations they encounter on the golf course.
USGA and Ohio rules officials will be the instructors at the following locations:
Aug. 14, Weatherwax GC, Middletown, 8-11:30 a.m.
Aug. 15, Ohio State GC, Columbus, 8-11:30 a.m.
Aug. 16, Yankee Trace GC, Dayton, 7:30-11 a.m.
Aug. 17, Fairfield GC, Cincinnati, 7:30-11 a.m.

LEFTIES ONLY: The Kentucky Left-Handed State Golf Tournament is Aug. 11-12 at Marriott's Griffin Gate Resort & Golf Course in Lexington, Ed Martin of Florence, chairman of the board of the National Asso ciation of Left-Handed Golfers, announced. The 36-hole, flighted stroke-play championship costs $150 to enter.
CHIP SHOTS: Enquirer All-Star Ashley Duff (Glen Este) shot 80 and won the 16-18 girls Ohio Golf Course Owners Association junior tournament by three strokes at Licking Springs Golf Club in Newark. The junior series includes 12 tournaments and more than 185 golfers. The girl and boy with the best finishes will earn $1,000 college scholarships.
Robert Gerwin not only won the Cincinnati Met and Ohio Amateur (for the second time) this summer but also advanced to the second round of the North-South Amateur at Pinehurst, N.C.
Alex Volpenhein of Edgewood won the boys 13-14 title at the Pepsi Junior Tour event in Lexington and qualified for the Tournament of Champions in August.
