MONTGOMERY — Ken Suer, who served five years on the city's planning commission and a two-year stint on the board of zoning appeals, will be sworn in Wednesday night as the city's newest council member.

        Mr. Suer, 51, an educator at Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development, will fill the seat vacated by Donald Cornett, who resigned in May because he moved out of town.

        Mr. Suer, a 12-year resident of Montgomery, will serve out the unexpired term, which ends in November. He said he plans to seek election to City Council.

        “Ken has been an active and involved member of the Montgomery community, and we look forward to working with him as a member of our city team,” Mayor Gary Blomberg said.

        Six people applied for the vacant seat. Council members are paid $1,200 per year.

        During the late 1980s, Mr. Suer served as clerk-treasurer and civil service commission chairman for the village of Golf Manor.

        Mr. Suer said he will work to maintain Montgomery as a quality place to live and raise a family.

        The swearing-in will occur at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 10101 Montgomery Road.
