Bastel wins Women's Ohio Am

WARREN, Ohio — Emily Bastel chipped in for a birdie on the 34th hole of a 36-hole match against Pat Milton to win the Women's Ohio State Amateur golf championship at the Trumbull Country Club.

Bastel's birdie just off the 16th green defeated Milton 3-and-2. Bastel, of Upper Sandusky and the 1999 champion, missed just one fairway and shot a 4-under-par 68 on her first 18 holes to put her 2-up.

Milton, of Munroe Falls, the 1988 champion, had five birdies on the back-nine to shoot a 70 on her first 18 holes.

Bastel defeated Heather Zielinski of Sylvania 5-and-4, and Milton eliminated Shelly Binzel of Dublin 2-up in Thursday's semifinals.

Cincinnatian Patty Kuehner and Wilmington's Gabby Wedding lost in the quarterfinals.
