Phenix earns silver in world swimming

Ursuline grad Erin Phenix and her American 400-meter freestyle relay teammates shared the silver medal with Great Britain on Monday at the World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.

Germany won in 3:39.58, with the U.S. and British both finishing in 3:40.80.

Phenix, a University of Texas junior-to-be, had her team's fastest split in both the finals (54.68 seconds) and preliminaries (54.74). Her teammates were Colleen Lanne, Maritza Correia and Courtney Shealy. Phenix was part of an Olympic gold medal-winning team in the same event last fall in Australia.

Phenix's boyfriend, Covington Catholic grad Nate Dusing, will swim Friday in the 800 free relay.
