Township Officer Chris Phillips, 33, was trying to help a Mount Healthy police officer apprehend a fleeing suspect when the crash occurred at Wenning and Pippin roads.
Officer Phillips' vehicle was hit by a 1985 Volkswagen driven by Clark N. Kendrick, 25, of the 5300 block of Danroth Court, Mount Airy, police said.
A Mount Healthy police officer had tried to stop Mr. Kendrick at Adams Road and Hamilton Avenue in Mount Healthy on an open felony warrant.
He drove off, and the officer chased him into Colerain Township. Mr. Kendrick was driving west on Wenning Road and tried to turn north on Pippin. He lost control of the vehicle and veered left of the center line, colliding with Officer Phillips' car, traveling south on Pippin.
Officer Phillips was taken to Mercy-Franciscan Hospital by the Colerain Township Fire Department, where he was treated and released Wednesday morning.

Officer Phillips was wearing his seat belt, but none of the passengers in Mr. Kendrick's car were wearing one.
Three passengers in Mr. Kendrick's car were taken to Tristate hospitals. All were treated and released. They were:
John Horn, 41, of the 2000 block of Grant Avenue, Bevis.
Raymond Cope, 38, of the 7800 block of Seward Avenue, Mount Healthy.
Earl Durbin, 45, of the 9900 block of Pippin Road, Colerain Township.
Steve Barnett, spokesman for the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department, said Mr. Kendrick was taken to University Hospital. His condition was unknown.
Mr. Barnett said no charges had been filed by the Sheriff's Department, but the crash was under investigation by the Traffic Safety Unit of the Hamilton County Sheriff's Patrol.
The Mount Healthy Police Department said charges are pending against Mr. Kendrick.
