NEWTOWN A Florida woman is in critical condition after her car collided with a train Friday afternoon on Debolt Street and was shoved more than 700 feet toward Church Street.

Newtown assistant fire chief Bill DeVore said it appeared that Ms. Clark did not yield at the intersection and was struck by the eastbound Norfolk Southern train, which was traveling at about 35 mph.
The intersection at Debolt Street is not equipped with gates or flashing lights, only a railroad crossing yield sign.
Mr. DeVore said there was nobody else in the white Lincoln Town Car, which was struck on the right side.
Mr. DeVore said Ms. Clark, who was traveling from her cottage in nearby Shademore, did not have any visible head injuries.
Firefighters from Newtown, Anderson Township and Mariemont responded, he said.
Officials from Norfolk Southern at the site would not comment on the accident. Spokespeople from the company could not be reached Friday afternoon.
It is not known where the train was going or what it was carrying, only that it routinely travels through Newtown.
