Crowe's cut leads to draw with Moorer

Enquirer news services

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Dale Crowe of Taylor Mill, Ky.,had to settle for a technical draw Friday night in his nationally televised heavyweight fight against former world champion Michael Moorer.

The referee stopped the fight in the fifth round at the advice of the ringside doctor because of continued bleeding of a cut near Crowe's right eye.

Because the bout had not gone at least halfway through its scheduled 10 rounds, the bout was declared a draw. Though Crowe was behind on points, he wanted to continue.

The 25-year-old Crowe, a Norwood High School graduate, suffered the cut in the first round when the fighters accidentally bumped heads. At that time, the doctor told Crowe the fight could continue as long as the cut didn't worsen.

        Crowe's record is 25-4-1.
