Move suits cable production group

In its first week in Over-the-Rhine, Media Bridges is already seeing the advantage of its move.

“It is so great. We love our temporary space much more than the old space,” on Reading Road, director Belinda Rawlins said. “With the windows on the street, the foot traffic, people who live and work in the neighborhood coming by, it is so different.”

For the time being, the community media organization is making its home at 1106 Race St., next door to the 1100 Race St. building that will become its permanent home following renovation.

Ms. Rawlins said weekly orientation classes on video production will resume at 7 p.m. Monday. Editing suites are up and running.

“For people who regularly do studio production, we will send someone from production services out to help them them until we have the studio online,” Ms. Rawlins said.

The new facility is expected to be ready by October.

Media Bridges, formerly known as Cincinnati Community Video, provides training and facilities for public access to Cincinnati's cable television system. It is supported partly by cable subscriber fees.

The move to the new building is part of its recent drive to educate more people on use of communication technology such as digital and online production.

Ms. Rawlins said the signs are encouraging. In its final report to the Ohio Arts Council, it will report “a 48 percent increase in the number of people through our doors over the past year.”

        Hours in the temporary offices are 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Information: 651-4171; www.mediabridges.org.
