Senior tourney will reward fan for ace
Enquirer news services
The Kroger Senior Classic is giving away $10,000 to a lucky fan if a Senior PGA Tour player makes a hole-in-one on hole No.8 on Sept. 1.
Sponsored by The Enquirer, the $10,000 Hole-In-One Challenge will select 78 entries who registered at www.Cincinnati.com and assign them to the 78 players in the field of the Kroger Senior Classic.
If a player hits a hole in one on that day, the contestant who was assigned to that player wins the grand prize.
No other PGA event has a hole-in-one contest set up this way, but we think there's a pretty good chance we'll give away the $10,000 because the odds of a Senior Tour pro making the shot is much greater than an amateur, said Tim Pennington, director of communications for the Kroger Senior Classic.
Here is how the contest works:
Contestants can register online at www.Cincinnati.com now through Aug.20.
The Kroger Senior Classic will select 78 contestants from entries and will number them from 1 to 78 based on the order they were picked.
The tournament will rank each of the 78 players based on winnings thus far this season. In case two or more golfers are tied in winnings, they will list them alphabetically for that amount.
The selected contestants and the golfer will be matched according to their numbers.
If a golfer makes a hole-in-one on Sept.1, on hole No.8 the contestant assigned to that player wins $10,000.
We've had three hole-in-ones in the 11 years of this tournament, so the odds are pretty good it might happen again this year, Pennington said. The Senior PGA players are aware of this contest, and they're pretty excited about winning some money for a fan.
In the event that none of the players makes a hole-in-one in the tournament, a random drawing of the 78 readers will take place to award a $500 gift certificate to Special Tee Golf.
The Kroger Senior Classic will supply each of 78 readers with a pair of tickets to the tournament.
