Newport Central Catholic took advantage of four second-half turnovers by upset-minded Lloyd to score 30 unanswered points.

        Steve Everson rushed for 230 yards on 31 carries and two touchdowns for the Thoroughbreds. Everson's eight-yard touchdown run in the third quarter was set up by a turnover. A botched punt snap led to a fourth quarter touchdown. Newport Central Catholic sealed the outcome with Vail Brennan's 30-yard interception return of a touchdown.

        Myron Hopkins led Lloyd with 128 yards on 20 carries and a pair of touchdown runs.
