Baby's mother comes forward
The Associated Press
CYNTHIANA, Ky. A teen-ager came forward to tell authorities that she was the mother of a day-old baby boy who was left on a front porch swing, according to Harrison County Sheriff Bruce Hampton.
The mother, 17, and her father came to the sheriff, said Sheriff Hampton. She admitted placing the child on the front porch of a Cynthiana house about 5:30 a.m. Aug. 18.
She went through this entire pregnancy by herself, the sheriff said. By the time she has the baby, she's so traumatized she doesn't know what to do.
Josh and Megan Richie, a brother and sister, found the baby wrapped in a blanket with pillows on either side, the sheriff said.
A 19-year-old male has come forward, Sheriff Hampton said, saying he believed he was the father of the child. The names of the two have not been released.
The baby is in foster care pending court action, Sheriff Hampton said. The baby is in good condition, he said.
