Mentor program celebrates year
MOUNT HEALTHY Hot dogs, brats, chips, drinks and games will be the fare at Mount Healthy City School District's annual HOSTS picnic 5-8 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Mount Healthy park on McMakin Avenue.
HOSTS (Help One Student To Succeed) mentoring program will be celebrating strides made in its first full year of pairing adults and elementary children in the district. The picnic also offers an opportunity to meet fellow mentors, or to sign up to become one.

Hires at Country Day
INDIAN HILL Several key positions at Cincinnati Country Day School have been filled, including the hiring of the first female athletic director in the history of the Miami Valley Conference.
Laura Kennedy is the new Elementary School head. She has been working overseas.
The new director of advancement, Jeffrey Clark, has been working at Knox College, Galesburg, Ill.
Theresa Hirshauer will be the athletic director for the Upper and Middle School, as well as continue to teach and coach.
The school also has reorganized, creating new divisions: a Lower School that is made up of an Early Childhood Section (18 months, PKI, PKII and Montessori) and a primary section (K through second grade). The school also has created an Elementary School Division.
New Pacelli principal
Cardinal Pacelli School in Mount Lookout starts the school year with a new principal.
Kim Roy has logged more than 20 years of teaching and administrative experience in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati school system. She was principal of Our Mother of Sorrows in Roselawn for three years and a teacher for 19 years at St. Bartholomew Consolidated School in Springfield Township.
She replaces interim principal Taffy Clifton, who has returned to teaching sixth grade at the school.
Educator retires
Tom McKiernan of Green Township has retired after 38 years at Seton High School in Price Hill. His tenure included assignments as business teacher, associate principal, alumnae moderator, development officer and, most recently, Seton High School Foundation chairman.
As business office administrator, Mr. McKiernan initiated the tuition aid program to assist Seton families and created the foundation. He's also known for his mini-reunions for out-of-town alumnae.
Beth Budde Ruehlmann, a 1974 Seton graduate, will assume his role as foundation director.
New board member
MILFORD James Hudson of Miami Township is the newest member of the Milford Exempted Village Schools Board of Education. He is completing the four-year term held by Ray Traffis, who moved to California. Mr. Hudson's name will be on the November ballot.
Mr. Hudson and a business partner own Bottom Line Solutions. He is an independent consultant on human relations, distribution and logistics.
He served on the district's Red Ribbon Commission. His two daughters graduated from Milford High School.
