Gonzalez hits No. 50; Bonds stays in park
The Associated Press
PHOENIX Luis Gonzalez became the 19th player to hit 50 home runs in a season, and the Arizona Diamondbacks widened their NL West lead to 4 1/2 games Wednesday night with a 2-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
Giants slugger Barry Bonds, on a record pace with 57 homers, was 1-for-3 with a first-inning single.
Bobby Witt, out of baseball most of last season and injured much of this one, pitched 5 1-3 scoreless innings for Arizona in his second start of the year and first since April 7.
