NKU signs former Illinois standout
Darnell Fields, one of the top scorers in Illinois at Zion-Benton High School two years ago, has signed with Northern Kentucky University and will play men's basketball this season.
The 6-foot-8, 185-pound forward/guard averaged 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Zee-Bees and is No.3 on the school's all-time scoring list.
Fields was named All-North Suburban Conference as a junior and senior, and he earned All-State honors as a senior. He also lettered in football.
Darnell is a very good scorer with a great deal of talent, NKU coach Ken Shields said. "He runs the floor very well for a guy who is 6-foot-8, and we think Darnell can be an impact player for us this season.
Fields has played at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College and Chaffey (Calif.) College since graduating from Zion-Benton. He joins an NKU team that posted a 27-7 record last season.
