The Insatiable Shopper
By Joy Kraft
The Cincinnati Enquirer
The architect and the mouse: Michael Graves, master of whimsical practicality, is introducing a line of Michael Graves/Disney products to his home designs for Target stores. This Mickey sphere clock, $19.99, is one of the pieces by the architect (and UC grad) who designed Disney's corporate headquarters and the Disney World Swan and Dolphin hotels. Other pieces include a space-age coffee grinder, $19.99, and a toaster (available in October) $34.99.
Barge-in-a-bag: This little tow with a pair of barges, from the River Trading Co. in historic Ripley, is a handy toy in a sack for river rats of all ages. The heavy-ply plastic pieces snap apart and can be rearranged in several combinations. Owner Allyn Rishel's store stocks everything about the river prints, oars, nets, steamer trunks, cut crystal riverboat models and novelty items such as slip-on speedboats (thick foam slippers that look like boats on your feet). Visit Ripley or (800) 292-4888; www.rivergifts.com, $29.95.
Calcu-clock: The best key chains ought to do more than just keep track of keys. Put a clock and calculator at your fingertips with this impulse buy from ZGallerie at Rookwood Commons, Norwood. The key chain, just 2 1/2 inches big, keeps digital time and makes figuring percentage-off sale prices a snap. $6.95.
