Missing siblings may have been kidnapped
By Jim Hannah
The Cincinnati Enquirer
BURLINGTON The Boone County Sheriff's Department is investigating the possible kidnapping of two Florence-area children.
The children's mother, Kenya Gay, told police that her boyfriend took her son and daughter on an outing Thursday morning and never returned. The boyfriend is not the children's father.
The missing children are 4-year-old Jala Nicoloe Ray-Shabazz and 1-year-old Jamari Ali Ray-Shabazz.
Jala is 3-foot-9 and weighs 45 pounds. She
has black hair below the shoulders and brown eyes. She has a light complexion and a burn scar on her upper right leg.
She was last seen wearing a pink tank top, matching shorts and sandals. The tank top had three decorative lady bug beads on it.
Ms. Gay's son, Jamari, is 2 feet tall and weighs 25 pounds. He has black hair worn about the ears, brown eyes and a dark complexion with a birthmark on his right ankle and a scar on his right hand.
He was last seen wearing a light- to medium-blue short-sleeve shirt with an oval design of boats on the front, and blue-and-white flower-print Hawaiian-style shorts. He was also wearing brown sandals.
Lt. Jack Banks said authorities want to question the boyfriend, identified as Jeffery M. Lyles, 31, of Florence. He has not been charged with a crime.
Ms. Gay told police Mr. Lyles took the children in her car for a haircut Thursday morning and never returned.
Lt. Banks said Mr. Lyles was last seen in Cincinnati, but might have traveled to Lawrenceburg and Louisville.
Ms. Gay's car is described as a red 2000 Mazda Millenia S with the Ohio tag of CIF-8490.
The sedan has a dent above the front tire on the driver's side of the car and tinted windows, and is missing the rear-view mirror.
Anyone with information that can assist in locating the children is asked to call Boone County Sheriff's Department at (859) 371-1234.
