CRESCENT SPRINGS Need to rent an apartment in Northern Kentucky, check the local movie schedules, or get the details on performances by everyone from a local Elvis impersonator to the rock band Aerosmith?
Then check out www.northern-kentucky.com, a new Web site dedicated to Northern Kentucky.
The site bills itself as the Web site that promotes commerce in Northern Kentucky.
A site all its own
The Crescent Springs-based Web site, dedicated solely to Northern Kentucky, was founded by Fort Thomas resident Jim Thomas, who returned to his native Northern Kentucky 3 1/2 years ago after a 14-year absence.
Excited by the area's growth, Mr. Thomas, 42, a freelance Web designer, was frustrated when he tried to look up information on the Internet about Northern Kentucky cities where he was considering buying a home.
I could get information on the homes, but I couldn't find any type of community information, he said.
While there were Web sites with information on Northern Kentucky, most included it as a suburb of Cincinnati, rather than as a destination with its own identity, Mr. Thomas said.
As of this week, Mr. Thomas's Web site had seen 19,937 visitors from 15 countries since it debuted six months ago. It also has received the Silver Community Award by Hometown USA, a national Web site promoting tourism and travel.
The main events and more
The site offers information on Northern Kentucky happenings everything from concerts to Sunday's Riverfest firework display to the 145th annual Alexandria Fair and Horse Show running through Monday.
Also included is information on Northern Kentucky cities, restaurants, lodging, nightlife, real estate, and schedules of everything from Northern Kentucky movies to bus schedules and flights.
