St. X grad on dean's list
Thomas Gardner was named to the spring semester dean's list at the University of Notre Dame in the School of Architecture.
The graduate of St. Xavier High School is the son of Claire and Thomas Gardner of West Chester Township.
Good citizens
Mount Airy Civic Club presented citizenship awards to these graduating elementary school students:
Shawn Derby and Jennell Taylor of Mount Airy Elementary School; and John Ruzick and Rebecca Morris of Little Flower Elementary School.
Selection was based on academics and responsibility toward family, school and community.
Cum laude grad
Yael Schmalz graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in information systems from the College of Business Administration at Kent State University.
The graduate of Walnut Hills High School is a resident of Hyde Park.
Top training unit
The Navy JROTC Unit at the Scarlet Oaks satellite of Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development received a 2000-01 Distinguished Unit Award from the chief of Naval Education and Training and the Navy JROTC area manager.
Scarlet Oaks was one of five Ohio schools that received the award based on its excellent program.
Leadership noted
Mai-Anh Dang has been named a Kodak Young Leader for her outstanding leadership qualities and academic achievement in a national program sponsored by Eastman Kodak Co. A junior at Western Hills High School, she will receive an award from Kodak and is eligible to apply for a University of Rochester Young Leaders Scholarship.
Wins scholarship
Milford High School graduate Colin Fitzgerrel has received a Trustee Scholarship to attend Wingate University in Wingate, N.C. The four-year award is given to students at the top of their graduating class who have demonstrated a high degree of leadership and moral character.
The son of Lynn and Richard Fitzgerrel of Milford plans to major in pre-pharmacy.
