Judge suspended for delays
FRANKFORT Robert Overstreet, circuit judge for Scott, Woodford and Bourbon counties, will be suspended for 15 days for a pattern of lengthy delays in deciding cases.
The judge's failure to decide cases promptly was pervasive, said the order from the Judicial Conduct Commission.
Judge Overstreet has been circuit judge since April 25, 1998. The suspension will run from Sept. 15 to Sept. 30. Overstreet will not be paid during the suspension. His annual salary is $110,288.
The commission said it had received numerous complaints about his inaction on all kinds of cases. There are two judges in the 14th circuit.
Needless delay can exact a heavy toll of expense and anxiety on the parties, the commission said. Although inordinate delay is unacceptable in all cases, the judge's failure to decide family law matters promptly was particularly egregious.
