The restaurant's two outside walls are plate glass, softened by billowing clouds of sheer curtains, and the white interior space is attractively accented with shades of blue. A dozen tables provide seating for dining in or you can elect to take your dinner home.
While the carryout menu features salads, soups and sandwiches, you also can order dinner entrees to go. Peters' Burg calls itself a European-style restaurant, and the menu bears witness to that with a nice selection of several cuisines. The Egypt Pyramid, ($11.70), pilaf-style rice with beef tips, is accompanied by vegetable kebabs removed from the skewer to make the trip home. The meat is well seasoned and flavorful, but dry and the meager portion doesn't seem worth the price. Better is the Georgian chicken, a savory chunk of chicken in a spicy tomato-based sauce with a generous mound of mashed potatoes and the vegetable kebabs for $11.50. The Pinecone meatballs ($9.70) are tasty but, again, a little dry. The meatballs are redeemed by another appearance of the homemade mashed potatoes and the ubiquitous vegetable kebabs.
Vegetarians who eat dairy may be interested in the Gourmet Mushrooms ($9.50), a stuffed portabella dish rich with cheese and sour cream, but there are few options for vegans.
Peters' Burg also sells soups and sandwiches. The Russian ($4.75), salmon and cream cheese on a bagel, is traditional deli fare, while the French sandwich ($5.40) is a gooey blend of chicken, mushroom, onion and cheese on a baguette. The Ukrainian borscht ($2.50/$3.50) is delicious.
Desserts ($2.50) are European-style tortes with thin layers of cake and filling, and the more familiar New York-style cheesecakes.
Families take note: Peters' Burg also features a modestly priced selection of food for children, such as hot dogs and fries ($1.75).
