IU-UK, Purdue-ND won't play
The Associated Press
INDIANAPOLIS After the Big Ten announced it would let individual institutions decide whether to play football games this weekend following Tuesday's terrorist attacks, Indiana and Purdue decided not to play.
The Boilermakers postponed their game against No.23 Notre Dame, rescheduling it for Dec.1. Then Indiana announced it had called off its game against Kentucky. No makeup date has been announced.
This has been a very fluid process, Indiana president Myles Brand said in a statement Wednesday. Earlier in the day, we believed other collegiate games were going forward. That has since changed.
Purdue, at the urging of the Irish, also opted not to play.
Twenty-one of Notre Dame's players played high school football in New York, New Jersey, Maryland or Virginia. One of those is quarterback Matt LoVecchio, whose father was in the World Trade Center during the 1993 bombing. Center JW Jordan said he had two high school classmates who worked for Morgan Stanley at the World Trade Center on the 101st and 104th floors during the most recent attack.
